On behalf of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers (PACB), Kevin Shivers, President and CEO today issued the following congratulatory statement following news that US Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) plans to return to private life upon completion of his current term. “Senator Pat Toomey has worked tirelessly for America’s small businesses and working families. Importantly, Senator Toomey has recognized the critical relationship these consumers have with their community banks. We could not have had a stronger ally in the US Senate. “Senator Toomey’s leadership to craft and pass America’s economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic in my mind stands out as one of his most important achievements. When the nation needed him the most, Pat Toomey rose to the occasion. He helped to push Washington partisanship to the margins. He listened to his small business constituents and to the community bankers who were responsible for delivering billions in economic relief. He worked across the aisle and with the administration to mobilize an historic economic relief package that dwarfs the Marshall Plan or the New Deal in size and scope. “Millions of Americans are better off because of Pat Toomey’s work in the US Senate and House of Representatives. He created opportunities for more Americans to own small businesses, worked to make the nation’s tax laws simpler for tax-paying families, and more fair for manufacturers and companies competing in the global market place. “Senator Toomey’s leadership also was instrumental in reducing regulatory barriers that prevented or severely impacted community banks and their ability to help their customers and communities. “I have known and worked with Pat Toomey throughout his public service career, dating back to his time in the US House and his work for the Club For Growth. Pat always is prepared, thoughtfully approaches issues and his word can be taken to the bank. “I am honored to call Pat Toomey a friend. I am looking forward to working with Pat during his remaining time in the US Senate on legislation to make it easier for community banks to help their customers pursue homeownership and all of their financial dreams.” Kevin L.
